Since Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League through promotion, injuries have followed the team around like a nasty stench. It was extremely rare for Steve Cooper to have a fully fit squad to select from during the previous season.l
In actuality, only Chelsea’s players sustained more injuries than Forest’s during the 2022–2023 campaign. The Reds’ fortunes haven’t changed much either this season.
In terms of days missed due to injury this season, statistics indicates that Forest is positioned about midtable. But the players who seem to pick them up on Trentside are always the most significant.
Nuno Espirito Santo has found Forest to be a little challenging. Following two victories in his opening three games at the City Ground, he experienced an injury-plagued January as several players were away at the AFCON.
Ola Aina, on the other hand, didn’t start playing again until two weeks ago. While the two players who were playing under Espirito Santo, Taiwo Awoniyi and Nuno Tavares, have not yet made a comeback.
Unfortunately, there has been a change. After some information surfaced last night, Forest may soon have a fully fit roster to select from as the campaign draws to a close.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Nuno Tavares’ injuries at Nottingham Forest are updated.
Now that two players may be returning, it’s reasonable to argue that, with six games remaining in the season, this sounds like good news for Forest.
This week, Awoniyi will have a scan for a fresh thigh issue that has been keeping him out of action for a few weeks. Espirito Santo is rumored to be optimistic that the striker will be available for the final stretch.
Awoniyi had earlier in his career pleased Jurgen Klopp. The Nigerian played briefly for Liverpool last season, and the German manager referred to him as “sensational” before Forest’s match against them.
Another player who has been absent for a few weeks is Tavares. He had barely begun to get used to life at the City Ground when an injury occurred, keeping him out of action due to a thigh ailment.
More good news, though, according to the article, is that the Arsenal loanee is reportedly getting close to returning and will be available to strengthen the defense come the conclusion of the season.
With six games left, Forest can still play in the Premier League this year. With six games remaining, the squad and Luton Town are now tied for first place in the standings.
Next season, Forest faces a dilemma about their great scorer.
It’s obvious that Awoniyi has value to the Forest squad. Chris Wood, who has scored 12 goals in the Premier League, has established himself as the team’s top striker in his absence this time around.
Awoniyi doesn’t feel like the starting striker for Forest anymore, for the first time since he joined the team. The Reds certainly appear to play differently when he plays with more physicality, but he will need to prove himself.
The team was facing a dilemma because Wood had a contract with Forest for the upcoming season. Does the team sign a new talisman since they have a striker who will be 33 years old next season and another who, in Awoniyi, seems to be unable to keep fit?
A lot of that will probably rely on whatever division Forest ends up in. But once this season is over, it’s certainly something that will make the powers that be atthe City Ground pause and consider.
