Despite fighting his way into the top 16 during the season and finishing with a respectable 13.6 average, Chris Buescher was not included on the postseason roster. He is furious that he was unable to locate the place. This season, he has placed in five top-5 finishes and twelve top-10 finishes, but he was unable to win or accumulate enough points to overtake Martin Truex Jr.
Though he isn’t in the postseason running anymore, he still has some things worked out. He is disappointed that all of his effort was in vain, though, and hopes that the system will be better in the future. RFK Racing also plans to field a third driver in the upcoming season.
How did RFK Racing’s 2024 season go?
RFK Racing has been active in racing for almost 27 years. To its credit, it has eight Cup Series victories. The team currently has just two cars in the Cup divisions, despite fielding some of the best drivers in motorsport history across all three NASCAR categories. Since becoming a co-owner, Brad Keselowski has been making significant changes to bring the team up to speed.
For RFK’s two drivers, the 2024 season has started off very nicely. Even though Tyler Reddick destroyed Buescher in his mid-season Darlington triumph, Keselowski made it through to the Playoffs without incident. Chris Buescher came very close to winning twice more throughout the season, coming in second at Kansas Speedway and Phoenix Raceway. Though he blames himself for not keeping up with the system’s requirements, it was clearly a difficult battle.
Chris Buescher was obviously upset when he spoke with NASCAR on TSN after the race. He said, “We just didn’t quite get it done again, and we are only out working it now.” We were so fast, we outran so many of these cars that will be fighting for the championship, and we had such a great year, but regrettably, that’s the system we’re all playing in.How unfortunate. But Bill Summer Inc. saw great success with Mustang.
Buescher has only qualified for the playoffs twice in the Cup Series since he began competing in 2015. Last year, he had three race victories and finished the season in seventh place. Rather than chasing points to qualify for the round of 16, Buescher was looking for a similar run this year. Buescher said, “But that’s the system, and we didn’t work it right.”
What exactly is causing the frustration?
Numerous NASCAR insiders have repeatedly emphasised how unfair the playoff qualification process is.The most outspoken about it has been Kevin Harvick, particularly after Harrison Burton’s race victory at Daytona last weekend helped him qualify. There’s no greater itch than this one for drivers who put in a lot of effort all year long just to fall short of the cut.
However, drivers must find a method around it because it is the same for everyone and some will make it while others won’t. The only way to combat the system is from within. Buescher’s season also ended on a conflicting note.”It’s just a total mix of disbelief and frustration,” Buescher remarked.
The #17 team attempted to approach it diplomatically, knowing the system, but they were unsuccessful. The 32-year-old driver says, “Definitely going think back at different parts of the year and find out how to do better next time,” indicating that it is starting to sink in.And that concludes the task at hand. However, as crew chief Scott Graves hinted, the squad does have some surprises planned for the postseason. “Yeah yeah, have a lot of things sorted out and let’s not announce,” Buescher snaps back.
