National Reporter Shuts Down Cowboys Fans’ Hopes After Jerry Jones Gifted Weapon to Dak Prescott…….Read More
Cowboys Make Bold Draft Choices Amid Fan Criticism
Many Cowboys fans were vocal about wanting owner Jerry Jones to target a wide receiver or running back in the draft. With players like WR Tetairoa McMillan and RB Omarion Hampton still on the board, expectations were high. But Jones made a surprise decision, opting instead for offensive guard Tyler Booker. This move puzzled many, yet the team insisted the draft went exactly as planned. Now, the Cowboys are shifting their attention to free agency in search of proven game-changers.
Their first significant move was acquiring wide receiver George Pickens, aiming to add firepower to their offensive lineup. Fans initially skeptical of Jones’ draft strategy began to show support again after this acquisition.

While fans hoped the Cowboys might go after two big-name free agents—running back Nick Chubb and cornerback Stephon Gilmore—it turns out those hopes were never realistic. NFL Network reporter Jane Slater revealed that sources close to Jerry Jones said those two were never seriously considered.
Chubb, once a powerhouse, is now viewed as a risky choice due to his injury history—missing 15 games in 2023 and nine more in 2024. That, combined with the Cowboys selecting two running backs in the 2025 draft (Jaydon Blue from Texas in the 5th round and Phil Mafah from Clemson in the 7th), suggests the team has chosen to go younger at the position.
Cowboys Draft for the Future in the Secondary
The Cowboys took a similar approach with their secondary. While Gilmore was a known name among fans, his age—now 34—likely worked against him. Instead, the Cowboys selected rookie CB Shavon Revel from East Carolina in the 3rd round, clearly prioritizing long-term development over veteran experience.
Addressing the Wide Receiver Gap
Interestingly, the one position group that received no attention in the 2025 draft was the receiving corps. That’s where the Pickens trade comes in. In 2024, CeeDee Lamb had an impressive year, racking up 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns. But Dallas needed another quality receiver to help lighten his load.
On May 7, the Cowboys acquired WR George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with a 2027 sixth-round pick. In exchange, Dallas gave up a 2026 third-rounder and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Pickens brings three seasons of NFL experience, having played 48 games (starting 40), totaling 174 receptions, 2,841 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns.
The Locker Room Reacts
While quarterback Dak Prescott has yet to publicly comment on the acquisition, CeeDee Lamb shared his approval with a handshake emoji on X. The team later shared the post on Instagram, reflecting the positive energy surrounding Pickens’ arrival.
With high expectations now placed on Pickens, the Cowboys are counting on him to make a major impact and help the franchise end its 30-year Super Bowl drought.
