Dale Earnhardt Jr. Fires Back at Kyle Larson’s Criticism as Goodyear Tire Drama Rocks Kansas

Frustration Boils Over Ahead of Kansas Showdown
As NASCAR’s 2025 season continues to draw criticism for lackluster races, Kansas Speedway has emerged as a potential savior. Known for multi-groove action and close finishes, the track is under scrutiny following a slew of underwhelming events elsewhere on the schedule. Now, with Kyle Larson expressing skepticism and Dale Earnhardt Jr. pushing optimism, the AdventHealth 400 has become a lightning rod for fan debate.

Larson Questions New Tire, Dale Jr. Pushes Back
Larson, who starts on pole after a blistering 29.391-second lap, openly questioned whether the new left-side tire introduced by Goodyear would improve racing. “If it’s a boring race… NASCAR, you’re idiots, Goodyear, you suck,” he quipped. Dale Jr. responded on social media, saying, “No chance we get a dud Kansas. We are so due!” His message reflects faith in Kansas’s reputation and the need for a standout event this season.

Practice Session Marred by Tire Failures
Five drivers—Ty Gibbs, Shane van Gisbergen, Brad Keselowski, Chase Briscoe, and Zane Smith—suffered tire failures in Saturday practice, with Smith’s crash causing heavy damage. Even Larson scraped the wall. The culprit appears to be teams running below Goodyear’s recommended 22 psi to gain speed, which may have triggered failures despite prior success of the compound at other tracks.

All Eyes on Strategy as Kansas Looms
With tire wear a major concern, Sunday’s race is expected to become a battle of tire management, pit strategy, and adaptability. Each team has nine sets of tires, meaning conserving rubber could decide the winner. Kansas delivered the closest Cup Series finish in history last year—0.001 seconds—so fans and teams alike hope this year’s race lives up to the hype.
