As the New York Giants begin their offseason training, one rookie is already attracting significant attention. Running back Cam Skattebo, a fourth-round selection from Arizona State, has been praised by team officials for quickly adapting to the professional level and showcasing a dynamic, well-rounded skill set.
In a recent interview, general manager Joe Schoen expressed confidence in Skattebo’s abilities, noting that what they observed on his college tape is matching up with what they’re seeing in practice. According to Schoen, Skattebo’s physical style, balance, and control on the field stand out, but it’s his mental sharpness and understanding of the game that’s really impressed the staff.

Skattebo had an outstanding 2024 season with Arizona State, recording 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He also contributed 605 yards and three touchdowns through the air, making him a valuable dual-threat asset. This versatility played a key role in the Giants’ decision to draft him on the third day.
He joins a competitive backfield in New York that includes fellow rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., returners Eric Gray and Dante Miller, and veteran addition Devin Singletary. Despite the crowded position group, Skattebo’s early command of head coach Brian Daboll’s complex offense has helped him stand out.
Coaches have highlighted Skattebo’s attention to detail and his ability to absorb the playbook quickly. His performance so far has reflected the same determination and physical edge he displayed in college. Schoen emphasized Skattebo’s consistency, noting that he brings a competitive edge and toughness to every session.

Coming off a difficult 3–14 season, the Giants are leaning heavily on their incoming rookie class to help turn things around. While first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart has garnered much of the spotlight, Skattebo is also emerging as a potential immediate contributor, especially in a system that favors rotation and flexibility among running backs.
Though a starting role has not been guaranteed, Skattebo’s combination of power, vision, and receiving skills aligns well with the traditional profile of Giants running backs. With upcoming minicamps and preseason action, he’ll have more chances to show why he deserves a major role in the team’s rebuild. Early signs suggest he’s making a strong case.
