Harris English Leaves PGA Championship After Final Round Despite Stellar Finish
Harris English turned in a remarkable performance during the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship, shooting six under par at Quail Hollow. Despite being one of the early leaders and finishing with a strong total, he chose not to stick around to see how the rest of the tournament unfolded.
After finishing his round, English briefly spoke to the media before leaving the course. He made it clear that he had a flight to catch and didn’t expect his score to stand up against the top players still on the course—particularly Scottie Scheffler.
“I’ve got a flight I’m catching at 5:00. Two guys will probably not be very happy with me if I didn’t show up,” English explained. “That back nine, you can make a lot of birdies, kind of starting with birdie 10, 12. There’s a lot of birdies out there. I mean, the best player in the world is even through 3. I don’t see him slipping a whole lot.”
His prediction proved accurate. Scheffler delivered an impressive final stretch to secure his third career Major title and his first PGA Championship victory. English, meanwhile, ended up in a tie for second place alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley.
Reflecting on his own performance, English expressed satisfaction with how he closed out the tournament. Despite starting Sunday well behind the leaders, he relished the challenge and was proud to post the lowest score of the final round.
“I kind of pride myself on playing my best golf on a Sunday when it matters the most—when it’s the hardest pins, when it’s the toughest conditions, when it’s the most pressure,” he said. “I wouldn’t say I played a lot better than I did the previous days, I just made more putts and got the ball in the hole.”
While he didn’t come away with the trophy, the T2 finish marked English’s best showing in a Major. His performance on Sunday stood out, as no one in the field—including the eventual champion—managed to score better in the final round.
