“Nobody Should Go Through This”: Emotional Jordan Spieth Shares Powerful Moment With Young Cancer Fighter at Charles Schwab Challenge

Walking With Courage
During the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Pro-Am, Jordan Spieth made more than just headlines—he made a memory. Teeing off with 14-year-old Zeke Newberry, a brave pediatric cancer patient, Spieth let the young fighter caddie for him in a special VIP Experience through Children’s Flight of Hope. It was a moment that stole the spotlight and Spieth’s heart.

“Best Hole I’ve Played”
Spieth didn’t just play well—he shined with an eagle on the first hole, crediting Newberry as his good-luck charm. “It was the best hole I’ve played this week, to be honest,” he said. But beyond the golf, Spieth spoke passionately about Zeke’s journey, praising the young boy’s strength after undergoing treatments since the age of three.

Spieth’s Foundation Steps In
Through his Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, the golfer has funded organizations that helped Zeke and his family travel for cancer care. “He was flying from Naples to Florida over 20 times,” Spieth recalled. The foundation’s support has lightened a heavy load for families fighting the toughest battles.

The Heartbreaking Truth
Spieth’s voice shook as he shared Zeke’s story: “Pediatric cancer is just a terrible, terrible thing. Nobody should have to deal with it.” The moment reminded him—and all watching—of life beyond golf, and the importance of lending support where it’s needed most.

Why Giving Back Matters
When asked about athletes’ roles in the community, Spieth didn’t hesitate. “If you can be a role model, you definitely should be trying your hardest to.” His upbringing—shaped by hardworking parents and a Jesuit education—fueled his sense of responsibility to uplift others.

Not His First Act of Kindness
Just last year, Spieth welcomed another cancer warrior, 14-year-old Kendall “Kelly” Ramos, to the course at the Valero Texas Open. Diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, Kelly was supported by Spieth’s foundation in her journey, which included life-changing surgery and meaningful moments on the green.

A Legacy Beyond the Leaderboard
Since 2014, the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation has supported over 100 charitable projects, from pediatric cancer and youth programs to junior golf and military aid. While Spieth hunts for his 14th PGA win, he’s already won where it truly counts—in hearts across the world.
