Naya Howard’s Bold Leap: From Georgia Star to Spartan Leader
Naya Howard’s gymnastics journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Rising through the ranks at Ocean Tumblers, she earned major accolades like national bar champion and made the U.S. national team twice—in 2018 and 2021. So, when she arrived at the University of Georgia in 2025, her immediate impact was no surprise. Dominating across all events—vault, bars, beam, and the all-around—she quickly became the heart of the Bulldogs’ lineup and a fan favorite in Athens.

But behind the routines and podium finishes, something felt off.
On April 12, 2025, Naya stunned fans with a personal message on Instagram announcing her departure from Georgia’s gymnastics team. “After some reflection,” she wrote, “I’ve decided to explore new places and opportunities that feel more in line with the direction I see for myself.” Then, on May 26, she followed up with an even stronger statement: “I’ve learned that ‘trust the process’ doesn’t apply when the process is flawed.”
The comments, seen as a critique of Georgia’s gymnastics program led by Cecile Canqueteau-Landi—once Simone Biles’ coach—hinted at deeper issues behind the scenes. While Georgia managed a third-place finish at the NCAA Washington Regional, they fell short of their championship ambitions, leaving many to wonder what really led to Naya’s decision.
Despite the upheaval, Naya’s story isn’t one of defeat—it’s one of revival.
Just weeks after her exit, she announced her transfer to Michigan State University, celebrating her new path with these words: “I’ve been given a second chance! I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be transferring to MSU on a full ride!”
Her move represents more than just a change of school—it’s a fresh start with a scholarship and a new team eager to rebuild after key departures. Naya’s resilience and determination have been nothing short of inspiring. “I got more in the tank,” she declared, setting the stage for a comeback that has fans buzzing.
Reactions to her announcement were instant and passionate. Messages of support flooded her Instagram. One fan commented, “Bigger and better things are ahead! So proud of you for holding your head high and knowing your worth.” Another wrote, “So so proud of you!! MSU has a new fan.”
Even fans from Georgia showed grace and admiration. “Hate to see you go, but cheering you on in this next chapter!” said one. Others expressed excitement for the Spartans’ future: “Can’t wait to see you shine bright! Black & Green Leo making time!”
Naya’s presence is already energizing Michigan State’s program, and her leadership could be exactly what the team needs in their transition year. With her proven talent and newfound motivation, she’s not just continuing her journey—she’s rewriting it.
Her next chapter begins in East Lansing. And with her spirit, skill, and fire, there’s no doubt Naya Howard is poised to become one of the defining names in collegiate gymnastics once again.
