Gabby Thomas Targeted at GST Meet in Disturbing Harassment Incident
Olympian Gabby Thomas was prepared to light up the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia on May 31st. But what should have been a weekend of elite racing turned into a personal nightmare. Despite finishing 4th in the 100m and 2nd in the 200m, the real story wasn’t about performance—it was about a line that should never have been crossed.
The Heckler Who Crossed the Line
Thomas later revealed via social media that a grown man followed her around the stadium, hurling personal and racially charged insults, even targeting her fiancé. The man, self-identified online as “Mr 100K a day,” boasted that his heckling was part of his sports betting strategy—he wanted her to lose so his parlay could win. He even posted a video of himself taunting her at the event.
Gabby Speaks Out
Thomas didn’t stay silent. In a now-viral post, she quote-tweeted the heckler’s video, saying:
“This grown man followed me around the track as I took pictures and signed autographs for fans (mostly children) shouting personal insults… The heckling is tolerable—it’s following me around the stadium that’s wild.”
Her courage in calling out the behavior drew widespread support from fans, fellow athletes, and organizers.
Swift Action from FanDuel and GST
Michael Johnson, founder of the Grand Slam Track series, immediately condemned the behavior, assuring the public that the individual would be dealt with. FanDuel, the betting platform where the heckler had placed his wagers, responded swiftly. “This customer is no longer able to wager with FanDuel,” the company said, denouncing the abusive conduct.
A Disturbing Pattern: Not the First Time
Sadly, this isn’t the first time Gabby Thomas has faced harassment. Earlier this year, she revealed that she’s been followed through multiple airports by groups of men holding stacks of photos, demanding autographs. “They somehow have my flight details even when I don’t,” she said. The situation has become so severe she’s changed her email passwords and questioned whether she’s being hacked.
Not Just Gabby—Livvy Dunne Speaks Out Too
Former LSU gymnast Olivia “Livvy” Dunne recently shared a tearful video recounting her own experience of being followed by strange men—one of whom mentioned Gabby Thomas’s similar ordeal. Gabby responded with solidarity:
“Girl!! So sad that because we’re good at what we do people feel like… Glad you’re speaking up too.”
Time for Real Protection
These stories show an urgent need for stricter athlete security, both at events and during travel. What starts as “fan energy” can quickly become stalking, harassment, and trauma. It’s time for a change. Event organizers, sports platforms, and the public must treat athlete safety as a top priority.
Gabby’s Voice Is a Warning—and a Wake-Up Call
By speaking out, Gabby Thomas is doing more than protecting herself—she’s exposing a dangerous trend. The next step belongs to everyone else. Will sports culture finally start protecting its stars off the field, too?
