From Championship Glory to Personal Distance
Once hailed as one of college basketball’s most electric duos, Flau’jae Johnson and Angel Reese took LSU to national glory in 2023. But now, that connection is officially in the past. In a new interview on *The Breakfast Club*, Johnson confirmed the long-rumored tension between her and Reese, stating clearly, “We’re not friends.”
Respect Remains, But the Bond is Broken
Johnson didn’t hold back. While she avoided giving exact details, she did acknowledge there were deeper issues. “That bond we had, that thing that we did together—winning a national championship—you can never take that away from us,” she said. “Sometimes stuff happens; you wish it didn’t happen, but it does. And you just have to grow.”
She attributed the drift to “a lot of media, a lot of locker room stuff… stuff that goes on behind the scenes.” Though vague, her remarks hint at internal team dynamics and public pressure playing a major role in their split.
Angel Reese Already Addressed the Distance
Reese previously addressed the fallout, saying in a past interview: “We aren’t as close as we used to be… There are no hard feelings or anything, but we just grew apart.” She emphasized continued support for Johnson but noted that expectations for them to keep acting like close friends publicly are unrealistic.
Different Paths, Same Legacy
Now charting different courses—Reese in the WNBA and Johnson entering her senior season at LSU—the two athletes still share one of college basketball’s most iconic title runs. While they may not be exchanging messages anytime soon, both women remain committed to their growth—on and off the court.
Their friendship may have faded, but the championship banner they raised together will hang forever.
