Lexi Thompson Shuts Down Retirement Rumors With Bold LPGA Comeback Plan

Thompson Commits to Her Longest Run in Nearly a Year

After months of speculation, Lexi Thompson is officially pushing back against retirement chatter. The 29-year-old LPGA veteran is embarking on a rare three-week competitive stretch—her most sustained tour presence in nearly a year—starting with the Meijer LPGA Classic from June 12–15. Her schedule also includes the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 19–22) and the Dow Championship (June 26–29).

‘Not Retiring, Just Selective’: Lexi Clears the Air

Following her early exit at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open, Thompson clarified on Instagram that she’s not stepping away permanently. “I never used the word retire,” she insisted. “I said not a full-time schedule because I’m not sure how much I will play. Just taking it one at a time.”

Her message accompanied a photo of her dog, Leo, with the caption: “3 WEEKS ON THE ROAD STARTING NOW BEFORE A LONG BREAK 😊.” It marked a rare moment of transparency about her future after a season filled with part-time appearances and speculation.

Backlash Over Slow Play—And Her Response

Thompson also addressed criticism about her pace of play at Erin Hills. A viral video had captured Charley Hull sighing as Thompson lined up a putt, prompting backlash. However, Lexi was quick to defend herself: “Our group basically waited on every single hole on the group in front. We were never out of position, warned, or on the clock.”

This wasn’t the first time Thompson weighed in on the issue—she had previously criticized slow play during a 2024 tournament. Now on the receiving end, she pointed out that social media often oversimplifies what happens on the course.

A Veteran Still Hungry to Compete

While Thompson’s future schedule remains fluid, this current three-week tour commitment sends a strong message: she’s not done yet. With 11 LPGA titles and a legacy that spans over a decade, Thompson still has plenty to offer. Whether this run leads to another title or simply reminds fans of her talent, one thing is clear—Lexi Thompson isn’t ready to hang up her clubs anytime soon.
