“He’s Still Afraid of Me”—Gayle’s Bold Claim Ignites Friendly Rivalry
Sprint king Usain Bolt may have retired, but his speed remains the stuff of legends. However, in 2024, a surprising challenger stepped forward—none other than West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle. Known for his big-hitting skills and flamboyant personality, Gayle jokingly accused Bolt of being “afraid” to race him in a 100-meter dash.
“All He’ll See Is Dust”
In a playful video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Gayle claimed:
“Till this day, he’s still afraid of me. Doesn’t want to see me on a 100m track. Of course I’m a sprinter. All Usain Bolt will be seeing is a lot of dust and the Universe Boss just going down the stretch.”
Bolt’s Comeback Was Just as Sharp
Bolt, who holds the world records in both the 100m and 200m, responded with his trademark humor. “We all know Chris can’t run,” he said. “We know Chris doesn’t do quick singles or anything. We’re not worried about Chris.” He even shared a clip with a caption that teased fans to decide for themselves.
The Mo Farah Showdown That Never Happened
This isn’t the first time Bolt has been linked to cross-sport races. Fans once pushed for a showdown between him and British long-distance legend Mo Farah. Bolt admitted he would’ve considered a 600m run, but not a mile. “The mile is no joke,” he said, revealing that while he occasionally ran 600s in training, he was never tempted to go further competitively.
Even in Retirement, Bolt Remains the Standard
At 38, Usain Bolt’s legacy as the fastest man alive remains unchallenged. With eight Olympic gold medals and world records that have stood the test of time, it’s safe to say no amount of cricket banter—or dust—can truly shake the sprint legend.
