LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau recently hinted at stirring the pot with Rory McIlroy at the upcoming 2025 Ryder Cup. The reason? A cold shoulder at the Masters earlier this year.
Both DeChambeau and McIlroy were in contention for the 2025 Masters title. However, when DeChambeau was asked if the two had exchanged any words before the final round, he said McIlroy ignored him. McIlroy eventually went on to win the Masters, completing his career Grand Slam, while DeChambeau finished tied for fifth, four shots behind.

At the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere, DeChambeau addressed a possible Ryder Cup face-off, saying, “I’ll be chirping in his ear this time. Now if we go up against each other, I mean, you can be sure of it.”
After the Masters, McIlroy clarified that the silence wasn’t personal. He explained that staying focused meant limiting interactions, even with rivals, to remain mentally locked in:
“Yeah, like I was focused on myself and what I needed to do… It wasn’t anything against him.”
The Ryder Cup tees off September 26 at Bethpage Black in New York, where DeChambeau will represent Team USA and McIlroy will lead Team Europe.
In other news, DeChambeau also competed in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where he tied for 10th place. Scottie Scheffler took the win with a dominant 17-under. DeChambeau praised Scheffler’s growth since college, saying, “Scottie’s in a league of his own right now… it’s really impressive to see.”
Despite a rough 7-over start in the first round, DeChambeau bounced back strong, finishing at 9-under overall. Still, he trailed Scheffler by eight strokes.
Now, with the Ryder Cup around the corner, golf fans are watching closely. Will DeChambeau’s trash talk disrupt McIlroy’s calm, or will it fuel a fierce rivalry that lights up Bethpage Black?
