Fiji Rugby strikes landmark deal with Qatar

**Fiji and Qatar Rugby Federations Sign Three-Year Partnership Deal**

In a landmark step toward expanding international rugby ties, the Fiji Rakavi Football Union Limited (FRFU) and the Qatar Rugby Federation have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to boost rugby development in both nations.

Effective June 11, 2025, the agreement sets out an ambitious agenda that includes **player exchanges, coaching programs, international training camps, and commercial ventures**, with the option to extend the partnership beyond 2028.

As part of the collaboration, the two federations will exchange **delegations of coaches, referees, medical staff, and performance analysts**, while also organizing **international friendlies and training camps** for men’s and women’s teams across all age groups.

The MOU also emphasizes **joint initiatives in sports science, sports medicine, and referee development**, alongside exploring projects to improve rugby infrastructure in both countries.

FRFU Chairman John Sanday praised the deal as a “forward-thinking step” in Fiji Rugby’s long-term vision:

> “Partnering with Qatar opens new avenues for our players and coaches. We are excited about potential training camps, friendly matches and shared commercial opportunities that will benefit rugby in Fiji.”

Sanday credited Fiji’s embassy in Qatar, led by His Excellency Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya, for making the partnership possible and thanked Yousuf Al-Kuwari, President of the Official Committee for Rugby and Hockey of Qatar, for his hospitality.

A **joint committee** will be set up to oversee the agreement, with a detailed yearly program to be finalized every September.
