The Tour Championship, the final stage of the FedEx Cup playoff series, will take place from August 21–24 at East Lake Golf Course. Only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after last week’s BMW Championship qualified for the event, which carries an enormous $40 million purse.
Scottie Scheffler enters as the top seed and the most in-form player, fresh off his victory at the BMW Championship. However, despite the star-studded field, several big names fell short of qualifying.
Five notable players missing the Tour Championship
1) Xander Schauffele
For the first time in his career, Xander Schauffele will not feature at East Lake. He finished tied for 28th at the BMW Championship, leaving him 42nd in the FedEx Cup standings. His season highlight came at The Open, where he tied for seventh at 10 under par.
2) Rickie Fowler
Fowler narrowly missed the cut, finishing 32nd in the standings. His best results this year came at the Memorial Tournament and the BMW Championship, where he finished 1 under and 7 under, respectively.
3) Matt Fitzpatrick
The Englishman ended the playoffs ranked 34th and will not be part of the season finale. At the BMW Championship, he tied for 17th with a score of 1 under. His strongest finishes of the year were tied fourth at both the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship.
4) Jason Day
Day concluded the playoffs in 41st place after a tied 23rd finish at the BMW Championship with a score of 1 over. His best performance of the season came at the American Express, where he tied for third at 22 under.
