A $25,000 electric surfboard called the LIND Canvas has been tested and reviewed, and it’s turning heads as one of the fastest and most advanced boards on the market. Capable of reaching 35 mph, the Canvas combines sleek surfboard-style design with cutting-edge electric propulsion technology.
Testing the Board
The review was conducted with pro skimboarder Blair Conklin, first in choppy Laguna Beach waters, then in the calmer Back Bay of Newport Beach where the board performed best. The Canvas isn’t exactly like surfing; the experience feels closer to wakeboarding or snowboarding on water, and once mastered, it’s highly addictive.
Riding starts from a prone position with a wireless throttle in hand. The rider then accelerates and pops up to their feet. However, managing the throttle is tricky: sudden stops can launch the rider forward, and sometimes the board follows, leading to near wipeouts.
Background and Design
LIND was founded by Swedish entrepreneur Alex Lind, who first helped launch another electric board company (Radinn) before starting his own in 2020. His vision was to create a board built like a traditional surfboard – foam and fiberglass – but powered by high-performance custom engineering. The Canvas comes in two sizes:
Shortboard: 6’3″, 66 liters
Mid-length: 6’9″, 88 liters
The look is minimalist, with inspiration drawn from both retro surf designs and modern craftsmanship.
Technology
The board’s propulsion comes from a dual-motor waterjet system spinning at nearly 30,000 RPM, powered by a battery with “twice the energy density of a Tesla Model S.” The heavy battery sits under the board, feeding energy to the motors which shoot water through the tail for thrust.
Price and Availability
The $24,950 price tag makes it one of the most expensive surfboards ever produced. LIND acknowledges that it’s far beyond reach for most people, but says small-scale production and custom engineering drive up costs. Only 100 boards will be sold in 2025, with hopes that future models will become more affordable as technology improves and production scales.
Verdict
While extremely expensive, the LIND Canvas delivers a thrilling, high-end experience that feels futuristic. It’s described as the “Bugatti” or “Rolex” of electric surfboards – not practical for most, but unmatched in performance and enjoyment for those who can afford it.
