Tokyo World Championship Hit With Multiple Suspensions & Withdrawals Hours Before the Tournament

At the halfway mark of the 2025 BMW PGA Championship, Hideki Matsuyama leads the field after a stunning 8-under 64 on Friday, giving him a one-shot edge over Ludvig Åberg. Joining Åberg in contention are fellow Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose and Viktor Hovland, all chasing victory at Wentworth.

While the top of the leaderboard is stacked with big names, the cutline brought its share of surprises. Defending champion Billy Horschel, returning from hip surgery, fell just one shot short. After opening with a 1-over 73, he fought back with a 2-under 70 but finished outside the −2 cutline, ending his bid for a third BMW PGA title.

Brooks Koepka also missed out. The five-time major winner shot a strong 68 in round two, but it wasn’t enough to recover from his opening-round 75. Like Horschel, he finished a single stroke shy of the weekend. Koepka has now endured a series of missed cuts in 2025, adding to a frustrating season.

Rasmus Højgaard rounded out the list of notable exits. Despite a spectacular eagle chip late in round one, his second round unraveled quickly with six bogeys in the opening seven holes. He finished at +5, well below the cutline, and tied for 128th.

With several high-profile contenders heading home, attention turns to Matsuyama, Åberg, Rose, and Hovland as they battle for the $9 million prize over the weekend.
