Fiji Men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has emphasized that strengthening the team’s defence is a top priority as they prepare for the upcoming leg of the HSBC SVNS Series in Los Angeles next month.
Following a better performance in the recent Singapore tournament, Kolinisau noted that the team is progressing well and learning from earlier rounds in the series. He said that defensive strategy is currently the main focus, with the squad working to address specific vulnerabilities that have impacted their previous games.
“We are working a lot on our defence,” Kolinisau explained. “There’s still some weaknesses that we can improve on, especially in our communication and just knowing when to fall at the right time and when to hold and our one-on-ones.”
He pointed out that significant improvements were made between the Hong Kong and Singapore tournaments, particularly in the areas of breakdown discipline and field spacing. These adjustments, he said, have helped the team become more structured and competitive.
Kolinisau also commended the players’ commitment and performance on the field, stressing that continued focus and development could play a vital role in the team’s success at the Los Angeles 7s.
The Los Angeles leg of the HSBC SVNS Series is scheduled to take place on the 3rd and 4th of next month.
