Amanda Balionis Makes 7-Word Plea As Disaster Strikes PGA Championship Hours Before Tee Off

PGA Championship 2025: Weather Threatens to Overshadow Golf’s Second Major at Quail Hollow

The PGA Championship has arrived, and this year’s edition is set against the prestigious backdrop of Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina. Golf’s top players are preparing for one of the sport’s most celebrated events, but early concerns about weather disruptions are already making headlines. Past tournaments have shown how unpredictable conditions can influence play—particularly in 2005 and 2016 at Baltusrol Golf Club, where rain caused delays and suspensions. While Quail Hollow isn’t the same venue, the looming threat of similar conditions can’t be ignored.

Heavy rain already disrupted preparations, as seen in a social media post shared by Golf on CBS. The clip featured Hideki Matsuyama practicing his putting in extremely wet conditions, with his caddie shielding him under an umbrella. Waterlogged greens significantly hampered ball movement, compromising the effectiveness of the practice session. In response, Amanda Balionis reposted the reel with a humorous plea: “Some fix Charlotte weather before Thursday, tysm!”

Due to the deteriorating weather, Monday’s practice round was closed to the public. The PGA Championship organizers, prioritizing the safety of players, staff, and fans, announced that ticket holders for Monday could use their tickets on Tuesday instead.

The current scenario draws comparisons to this year’s Masters, where a similar Monday weather disruption took place. Although the day started with closures, the gates briefly opened for fans before worsening conditions forced another evacuation. Fortunately, that tournament carried on without major delays, offering hope that this week’s PGA Championship might follow suit despite the ominous forecast.

The competition itself carries high stakes. Jordan Spieth is attempting to complete a Career Grand Slam by winning his first PGA Championship title. Meanwhile, defending champion Xander Schauffele looks to maintain his dominance, and Rory McIlroy is seeking a historic calendar grand slam. Scottie Scheffler, another fan favorite, hopes to prove he can win a major beyond the Masters.

Weather forecasts suggest volatile conditions throughout the week. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring increased humidity and likely thunderstorms. However, Thursday—the tournament’s opening day—is expected to clear up with sunshine, offering a promising start. Friday is projected to remain dry but with dense humidity and cloud cover, while Saturday could face more disruptive storms. This may lead to an early start or even potential delays in play. Sunday, thankfully, is expected to bring back favorable conditions, possibly setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

As the golfing world waits to see who will rise above the challenges, one question remains front and center: Can Jordan Spieth overcome both fierce competitors and unpredictable weather to join the elite ranks of Career Grand Slam winners?

Golf fans will be watching closely, hoping for clear skies and unforgettable moments as the action unfolds at Quail Hollow.
