$4 Million Wave Pool Coming to West Virginia, but Surfers Say “This Ain’t It”

A quirky wave pool, not a surf haven
West Virginia is about to make a $4 million splash—but not the kind surfers were hoping for. The city of Princeton is moving forward with a new wave pool project designed by Aquatic Development Group (ADG), and it’s already raising eyebrows in the surf community.

Twin tides, two entry points, and zero surfboards
This isn’t your standard wave pool built for carving and shredding. The design, known as Twin Tides® Dual Entry Wave Pool, offers a unique setup with beachfronts on both ends and two entry points. Rather than surfable waves, it features gentle ripples for lounging in innertubes—more waterpark fun than surfing thrill.

Waterpark vibes, not wave-riding dreams
According to ADG, the pool doubles guest capacity without increasing the physical size of the attraction. Aquatics Supervisor David Allacher from Kansas’ Splash Cove, where a similar design is already in use, said, “Guest response to the Twin Tides pool is astronomical. They love it.”

Surf community not impressed
Despite the enthusiasm from waterpark guests, the surf world isn’t exactly throwing on wetsuits in celebration. With modern wave pools promising rideable waves in inland regions, West Virginia’s setup feels like a nostalgic step back instead of a bold new surf frontier.

Verdict: fun for families, a bust for boardriders
For those hoping to ride barrels in the Appalachians, this isn’t your moment. The Twin Tides pool might bring summer fun to Princeton, but for surfers, the search for a legitimate inland break continues.
