On Thursday night, Newcastle United’s road woes persisted.

Everton defeated Eddie Howe’s team at Goodison Park with three late goals following a close game for the majority of the match.

It would be dismissive to suggest that Newcastle’s injury crisis and demanding schedule are the only factors contributing to their struggles away from home.

In fact, over the entire season, Newcastle has only managed to steal five points from St James’ Park. Their lone road victory came from an 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United; their other two points came from draws with Wolves and West Ham.

Howe could not quite figure out why, though it was undoubtedly an intriguing campaign oddity.

News from Newcastle: Eddie Howe acknowledges that there is something “difficult” to grasp about this season.

After the Goodison Park game, Howe stated (via Hayters TV): “We find it hard to comprehend because we had excellent away performance last year.”

“We had a strong defensive record and were scoring freely.” With the exception of the Sheffield United match this year, we haven’t really progressed on the road.

“There’s definitely something to think about,”

Even though the addition of players to the roster will undoubtedly help, it doesn’t fully explain why Newcastle can’t break their home form.

Howe hasn’t done much to suggest he can’t fix it since taking over, but it is undoubtedly a problem that needs to be resolved.
