If they decide to return Koki Machida on loan to Union Saint-Gilloise for the balance of the season, Tottenham Hotspur may now be able to sign the defender. This is according to French publication Lavenir.
The 26-year-old Machida initially came into the picture when 90 minutes revealed that Spurs were impressed by the gifted left-footed defender’s performances in the Belgian Pro League. According to the report, Ange Postecoglou was acquainted with the player’s style of play during his tenure in the J-League.
Voetbal Nieuws (via Sport Witness) later stated that Spurs had chosen to scout the player and that the North London team may be aiming to sign him for the Europa League match between Union SG and Liverpool.
The Jupiler Pro League team intends to keep the Japanese defender until next summer, according to CEO Philippe Bormans of the Belgian club (De Zevende Dag).
It has been revealed by Lavenir that Tottenham might have found a way to deal with Machida, despite Union SG’s reluctance to let go of the defender in the middle of the season.
According to the report, if Union SG agrees to loan the player back to Spurs for the remainder of the season, Spurs may be able to persuade the Belgian team to sell the player to them in January.
Spurs Thoughts Union SG will undoubtedly be aware in the back of their minds that they are unable to retain Machida.
