The sharpest of blows was always going to come to Tottenham Hotspur, who had started the 2023–24 Premier League season so brilliantly, when Micky van de Ven was injured.

The youthful Dutchman was essential in propelling Spurs to the summit of the standings and revitalizing Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Spurs have fallen down the standings since he and teammate James Maddison’s injuries, but an impressive 3-3 draw against Man City indicates that the Australian has the north Londoners playing a far more thrilling brand of football than his predecessors.

Tottenham is reportedly looking for cover, as Premier Injuries estimates that van de Ven won’t return until January 14 at the latest.

The two-cap England international Ben Godfrey, who is out of favor at his current club Everton, is reportedly a target for Spurs, according to talkSPORT.

Although a price that would be acceptable to them at this point has not been mentioned, it is thought that the Toffees are open to selling the player.

From Postecoglou’s perspective, it has to be a deal worth doing if he can sign an elite player for a comparatively small sum, if nothing else to create competition for spots.
