In an interview, Alan Shearer said he would be “amazed” if Newcastle United decided not to sign a new goalkeeper. Nick Pope’s shoulder dislocation during the 1-0 victory over Manchester United last month appears to rule him out until April, which is a major setback for the Magpies. Pope has, after all, preserved seven clean sheets this season across all competitions.

Pope has undoubtedly been missed by Newcastle, who have let up seven goals without the number one against Everton and Spurs. However, Howe has insisted that the black and whites have not yet made any inquiries or decisions regarding January.

Instead, the Newcastle manager insisted that this was a chance for his goalkeepers to “consolidate their positions,” giving veteran backup Martin Dubravka a unique chance to make a statement.

The window doesn’t open for another five games, but Shearer wouldn’t be shocked if his old team added another goalie the following month.

The Newcastle legend told Premier League Productions, “Nick Pope has been brilliant for Newcastle – shot-stopping and everything else – and there’s a reason why he [Dubravka] has been a number two.” “I understand that it’s tough to get back into the team after not playing for so long, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Newcastle went out and found a replacement for Pope in the upcoming weeks.

“They’re in trouble if he gets hurt. I would be shocked if they weren’t considering other options right now to bring another one in order to plan and prepare.
