Ange Postecoglou is a fan of Benfica prodigy Morato, according to A Bola (as cited by Sport Witness). If Tottenham wants to recruit the center-back, they will need to surpass Fulham’s summer bid.

In the past 12 months, Morato has advanced significantly and established himself as a pillar of the Benfica defense. Spurs are reportedly taking note of his exploits.

Last month, The Daily Mail was the first to disclose that Tottenham is considering the 22-year-old before January.

Spurs have reportedly “intensified their observations” in relation to the Brazilian, according to O Jogo (via Sport Witness), who revealed this a few days ago.

The rumors that the Brazilian might join Spurs are getting stronger. A few days ago, O Jogo (via Sport Witness) disclosed that Tottenham has “intensified their observations” of the defender, who is now a “priority” for the Premier League team.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Morato has now been reported by A Bola, who also reveal that club scouts have visited Lisbon four times this season to observe the center-back in action.

According to the article, Postecoglou has a soft spot for the Benfica star, but Spurs would need to pay a hefty price to get him to leave the Estadio da Luz.

The publication explains that Fulham failed with a €25m (£21.4m) offer for Morato in the summer and Tottenham would have to make a better offer if they wish to sign the 22-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

Morato’s has stepped up and hit a new level this season. So, in all likelihood, Benfica are going to expect well above £30m for the centre-back in January, potentially even close to £40m.

However, if Postecoglou is convinced that the Brazilian has the talent to evolve into a top player, then one would expect Tottenham to back the Australian’s judgement.
