Eddie Howe has changed his starting lineup for Newcastle United’s away game against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal tonight (kick-off at 8pm).

Joelinton and Fabian Schar, who were substituted during Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Fulham, are not included in the starting lineup. Lewis Miley and Emil Krafth replaced the two, and they begin at Stamford Bridge.

Sven Botman also makes a comeback to the starting lineup, replacing Dan Burn on the bench. The Dutchman is making his first start since Sheffield United’s 8-0 victory in September.

During his pre-game press conference, Howe stated, “The beauty of the two games we’ve had previously is we’ve proven we can raise our game against the top teams in a cup competition that brought so many great memories for us last year.” “We’re committed to working toward advancement and making more memories.

We’ve witnessed the benefits and experiences that are available.

“It was fantastic to witness our supporters and how we embraced London and the entire spectacle in the lead-up to the final, even though the final itself was disappointing. I’m just so sad that we were unable to cross the line in the end.

“I believe it has benefited us for this year. We know the game will be extremely challenging, but we also know the reward if we succeed.”

The complete starting lineup and substitutions for Newcastle United are as follows:

1. GK: Martin Dubravka

2. RB: Emil Krafth

3. CB: Jamaal Lascelles

4. NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 16: On December 16, 2023, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Sven Botman of Newcastle United enters at the stadium before the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Fulham FC at St. James Park.
