According to a report from Sunderland Nation, Tottenham Hotspur is very interested in signing Daniel Neil, a midfield player for Sunderland.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who is “technically gifted,” is expected to attract significant competition from Liverpool and Arsenal, according to the north London team.

Neil is in demand since he will assist clubs in meeting their homegrown quote standards.

According to Sunderland Nation, Liverpool reportedly made an inquiry last summer, and the midfielder was seen in person by Tottenham and Arsenal. Sporting Lisbon, a huge Portuguese team, is also eager to sign him.

Neil has now made over 130 appearances with the Black Cats and is steadily becoming a better player. Luring him away from the Stadium of Lights won’t be simple.

Spurs may be interested in acquiring Neil in the January transfer window, although it seems unlikely that they will do so. Neil is a defensive midfielder.

The north London team has been strongly connected to a transfer for Conor Gallagher, a midfield player for Chelsea. Although there have been rumors that Spurs and Chelsea have discussed Gallagher’s signing, nothing concrete has been announced as of yet.

Gallagher will cost more than Neil, but the Chelsea midfielder will benefit the team more in terms of talent and experience.

They don’t absolutely need to acquire a new midfield player in January, though. After multiple important players sustained injuries in January, Spurs are in severe need of a center defender.

Mickey van de Ven is still sidelined for the foreseeable future, and Cristian Romero is now hurt. Although a number of defenders have been linked to Spurs, it appears that Radu Dragusin of Genoa is the one they are concentrating on signing.

It’s possible for Liverpool and Arsenal to pursue signings of defensive midfielders, though it’s unclear if they would try to sign Neil. In 25 appearances this season in the Championship, he has four goals and three assists.

His contract with the team expires in 2026, and he might decide to remain in Sunderland.
