Tottenham Expert: In light of developments, Ivan Perisic should leave Spurs in January because the time is right.

John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose is a welcome addition to Tottenham News’ exclusive writer lineup. He will provide his professional analysis on the most talked-about topics at Spurs every week.

Ivan Perisic, 34, may be able to clinch a transfer from Tottenham to Hajduk Split this month, according to John Wenham, who feels that the “time is right” for him to move on during the January transfer window.

Last month (December 24, 2023) Tottenham News exclusively disclosed that Perisic is set to re-sign for Hajduk Split, where he started his career.

After sustaining an ACL injury during non-contact training, the Croatian has been sidelined since September (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, September 20, 2023).

Prior to this, the winger’s role under Ange Postecoglou had been reduced to that of a bit-part player. He started just once in the Carabao Cup penalty-shootout loss at Fulham, where he also registered one assist in five Premier League appearances off the bench.

Wenham feels that Perisic will leave north London in January, ending his one and a half-year tenure with Spurs, since his contract is slated to expire this summer.

“I still believe Perisic will leave Tottenham and join Hajduk Split during the January transfer window,” Wayne remarked in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News.

“I am aware of his injuries, but there was speculation that he would return in March. Hajduk would anticipate competing for a title at that time, so having someone with his background would be ideal.

It’s unfortunate since I believe Perisic would have excelled under Postecoglou. In the brief moments when he was available and entered the game as a substitute, we witnessed him providing assistance and making an effort.

“It’s a big blow to lose his experience and leadership within the squad, but I believe it’s time to move on and keep rebuilding.”
