According to Tottenham News, Manchester United is a formidable opponent for Tottenham when it comes to signing Arthur Vermeeren, a midfield player for Royal Antwerp.

Despite just being 18 years old, Vermeeren has already played 65 games for Royal Antwerp. He was a major contributor to the team’s championship run the previous season, which marked the club’s first Pro League victory in 66 years.

The Belgian has been playing every minute of his team’s UEFA Champions League Group Stage campaign this year, and he scored in last month’s 3-2 victory over Spanish powerhouse Barcelona. His improvement has not shown any signs of slowing down.

The playmaker, whose technical skill and passing range have drawn comparisons to former Spurs star Christian Eriksen, is being pursued by the north London team, as previously reported by Tottenham News.

A fair £25 million could be enough to get Vermeeren, albeit there will be fierce competition (The Sun, December 26).

Tottenham News has learned from a source close to the Belgian football scene that Vermeeren is also a “big target” for Manchester United, whose scouts are vying with Tottenham and other teams for the midfield sensation.

Postecoglou, who is trying to give his midfield some much-needed depth, will be eager for his employers to prevail in the hunt for Vermeeren.

The Australian is now without James Maddison, who is still out due to an ankle injury, as well as Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma, who are also competing in the AFCON.

In other Tottenham news, a top-tier La Liga team has been mentioned in connection with an unexpected transfer for a Spurs defender.
