Spurs reportedly have interest in a Barcelona player who has a €500 million release clause.

Tottenham Hotspur may end up buying two center backs in January rather than just one as the team continues to hunt for one in the transfer window.

Spurs and Manchester United are reportedly in the running to acquire Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen, according to Spanish publication Fichajes.

In the past few days, the Lilywhites have made great strides toward closing the deal on Radu Dragusin, one of their center-back targets.

The last stages of negotiations between Tottenham and Genoa are now being revealed by renowned writer Fabrizio Romano. North London representatives expect the agreement to close by the end of next week.

Spurs may decide to concentrate on a different center-half because the current one is practically set.

Christensen has two and a half years left on his current contract, which keeps him at the La Liga powerhouses until June 2026.

With 19 games this season, the Danish international has been a reliable member of Xavi’s starting lineup.

In 2022, the 27-year-old was recruited by the Spanish powerhouses on a free transfer from Chelsea. He was given a four-year contract with a €500 million release clause.

Last season, Christensen and Ronald Araujo forged a strong defensive tandem that enabled Barcelona to maintain the most clean sheets out of all five of Europe’s top leagues.

Given the financial circumstances of the Spanish club, the report suggests that Spurs and Manchester United are closely monitoring the center-back’s condition and are ready to move.

With 161 Premier League games under his belt for the Blues, the former Chelsea star has a wealth of experience that might be very helpful to any suitor.

Known for maintaining his cool on the field, Christensen is a dependable center-half who was dubbed the Danish Maldini by West London supporters during his time in England. He is at ease with the ball at his feet and possesses dominating aerial skills.

If the team is able to get Dragusin, Ange Postecoglou would not force them to seek Christensen, but he would prefer a defender of his reputation.
