Daniel Farke has Borna Barisic of Rangers as his primary target at left-back since Leeds United’s Sam Byram and Junior Firpo have not been able to shake their reputations for being injury prone players.

Leeds hopes to entice the 31-year-old south of the border as he approaches the last six months of his Rangers contract. Nonetheless, the Whites face competition from eager clubs in Italy, France, and Spain.

Barisic joined Ibrox in the summer of 2018 and has been there for the past five and a half years, under Steven Gerrard. 53 assists in 224 Rangers games, a Europa League finalist. It’s understandable Leeds are eager.

But the Rangers want to hold onto him. They wish to stave off interest in his services this month by offering him a new contract. However, Leeds might have the ideal chance to entice Rangers to sell.

This is due to reports that Joe Gelhardt is the focus of Rangers attention. At Elland Road, Gelhardt is having difficulty getting playing time because Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter, and Joel Piroe are all ahead of him.

Leeds may be able to acquire Borna Barisic from Rangers in a trade.

Rangers may make a stronger approach for a striker before the transfer window closes since they have granted permission for Sam Lammers to join FC Utrecht on loan. Maybe they will act quickly to acquire Gelhardt.

In order to lure Barisic to Elland Road, Leeds must be able to offer Gelhardt to the Scottish team in exchange for Barisic. It’s debatable if a player-plus-cash transaction is possible. But there’s a possibility.

Rangers are interested in Gelhardt, and we are interested in Barisic, so there is undoubtedly room for negotiation between the two teams. Leeds may be able to acquire a left-back before the end of January as a result.
