After interviewing for the position of sporting director at St. James’ Park, 45-year-old Dan Ashworth is presently in England, suggesting that Newcastle United may be getting closer to finding a replacement.

This summer, Newcastle will undoubtedly be one of the most interesting teams to follow. It is evident that anticipations regarding the Magpies’ post-takeover expenditures were unrealistic.

Eddie Howe’s season has been more difficult this year. And it seems like there is just as much work to be done off the field as there is on it.

Dan Ashworth decided he wanted to relocate to Manchester United, thus he’s currently on gardening leave. And Newcastle is searching for his replacement at the moment.

The Times said that Newcastle is collaborating with a staffing firm to identify Ashworth’s replacement.

The Times claims that Paul Mitchell, Tim Steidten, and Tiago Pinto are being considered. However, Rui Pedro Braz may be another top target that is starting to emerge.

Rui Pedro Braz had an interview to become the sporting director of Newcastle.

According to The Times, Rui Pedro Braz visited England over the international break and participated in an interview for the Newcastle position.

Braz is Benfica’s sports director at the moment. Additionally, he has managed a championship during his tenure at Estádio da Luz, when the team won the league in 2023 for the first time in four years.

According to The Times, Braz managed Darwin Nunez’s and Enzo Fernandez’s sales to Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.

That might be especially important because Newcastle might need to let go of one of their best players this summer.

The person succeeding Dan Ashworth faces a challenging assignment.

Newcastle would naturally want to hold onto all of their top players. On the other hand, they will want to get the greatest deal if they must sell someone in order to proceed.

In contrast, Nunez and Fernandez are only two of the players from the Portuguese top division who have recently advanced to larger venues.

Newcastle may therefore be hoping that Braz will be aware of several future stars who might not yet require outrageous amounts.
