The security guard who tackled Adam Hadwin on the 18th green after the golfer tried to congratulate his fellow countryman on an epic PGA Tour win has finally broken his silence.

It was arguably the most viral golf moment of 2023.

In case you have forgotten, here’s a quick reminder.

Nick Taylor drained a monstrous eagle putt in a playoff against Tommy Fleetwood at the RBC Canadian Open.

It simply was an epic moment, prompting Jim Nantz to exclaim: “Oh my goodness! Glorious and free!”

The home crowd went bananas and Hadwin had the bubbly ready to go.

However, the problem was he wasn’t wearing his credentials and the security guard did his job incredibly well, taking down Hadwin like a WWE superstar.

Remind yourself of the moment here:

Now, the man behind it all has broken his silence.

He does not want to give his name, though, telling TSN in an exclusive interview he doesn’t want the limelight.

Mr X joked he’ll be in disguise this week.

And hilariously, he described the tackle as a ‘soft take down’, adding: “I remember everything vividly. Just like it was yesterday.”

He added: “I was on the other side of Nick and his caddie, which meant I had to come around him. There were a lot of people moving and I saw this person heading directly towards Nick.

“I saw it as if it was in slow motion, this guy coming towards Nick with a bottle and no credentials.

“It was a soft takedown. His feet never left the ground.”

Mr X said in the immediate aftermath of the tackle they both got up and laughed it off pretty quickly.

“We said sorry to each other and it was all over,” he said.

For his part, Hadwin said it was all ‘water under the bridge’.

And he even posted a photograph of the pair on his X page.

Hadwin also told the publication they had not crossed paths for more than a year.

But when he pulled up to Hamilton Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, he did a double-take and realised who stopped him to check his credentials.

“I rolled down my window,” Hadwin said.

“As soon as he recognized me, we both had huge smiles on our faces. I’ve said this from the beginning. I wasn’t hurt, I didn’t have any effects from it.

“I certainly don’t blame him; it was just one of those incidents. We shook hands, shared a few laughs and I got him to pose for a picture with me.”
