Charlie Cresswell, a defender for Leeds United, is attracting interest from Southampton ahead of January. Under Daniel Farke, the center back has been having trouble finding any playing time at Elland Road.

Out of 20 possible games this season, Cresswell, 21, has only been able to participate in four Championship games. The England U21 star signed a new contract at Elland Road in the summer, but he has only made one start.

It appears highly probable that Cresswell will be considering his options come January. However, according to a report from The Athletic this morning, Farke has told Cresswell that he will be expected to stay.

However, Nixon claims Southampton is expressing interest in pairing Cresswell in the middle of defense with Taylor Harwood-Bellis, his England U21 teammate. In January, they want to put Cresswell on loan.

According to a prior Nixon report, Middlesbrough is also interested in Cresswell. There are other players from Leeds that the Saints are interested in signing, including Sam Greenwood, who is on loan from Leeds.

Southampton is expressing interest in Charlie Cresswell, a player from Leeds.

Cresswell would be wise to join a Championship team that is probably going to place in the top six and reunite with Harwood-Bellis, a player he is familiar with from his time playing for England’s 21s.

However, it seems likely that Cresswell won’t be playing for the Saints. Without a doubt, we would rather not bolster a direct opponent for advancement. Southampton and Boro are exactly that. He does require a loan move, though.

Maybe going back to Millwall would be a better idea. A team that isn’t directly competitive with Leeds for automatic promotion, but may have a slim chance of taking one of the final two play-off spots.
