Barcelona thinks Giovani Lo Celso would be the ideal addition to Robert Lewandowski, but the Spanish powerhouses are reportedly facing two significant obstacles in closing a deal.

Prior to the January transfer window, Barcelona is rumored to be targeting a new attacking midfield player in an effort to find a replacement for Lewandowski at number ten.

And Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur is the player at the top of Xavi’s midseason wish list, according to a recent SPORT report.

After spending the previous season on loan at Villarreal, it appeared as though Lo Celso’s career at Spurs was over. However, under Ange Postecoglou, the 27-year-old has experienced an incredible comeback.

Argentina’s Lo Celso, who was given regular playing time after James Maddison sustained a long-term injury, has possibly been the Lilywhites’ most crucial player in recent games. The 27-year-old not only scored against Aston Villa, but he also scored a major goal against Manchester City, the reigning champions, the previous weekend.

And because of his performance, the once-outcast midfielder has been connected to a sensational transfer to the Nou Camp.

But closing the deal won’t be simple for Barcelona. Spurs will find it nearly impossible to complete a transfer due to financial constraints, primarily the club’s wage structure, in addition to their distaste for parting with their number 18 midway through the season.

Lo Celso, who has 18 months left on his contract, has played in 91 games across all competitions for Spurs over the course of his three-year contract. He has 10 goals and six assists.
