“No chance”: Journalist Ange Postecoglou has determined he does not wish to sell the £27 million Tottenham player at this time

Even though Spanish champions Barcelona are interested in Giovani Lo Celso, Tottenham Hotspur will not sell him during the January transfer window.

On Sunday, Ange Postecoglou’s team defeated Newcastle United spectacularly to finally snap their winless streak. They appear to be back on track, but January will be crucial for business. While everyone will be focused on the newcomers, some may also depart. Dean Jones, however, states that Lo Celso will not be among them.

Spurs’ Giovani Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso won’t be sold by Tottenham in January.

In January 2020, Tottenham paid £27.2 million to make Giovani Lo Celso’s initial loan agreement permanent (BBC).

When the Argentine joined Spurs, he displayed a lot of promise, but he gradually lost favor. Everyone expected him to leave last summer, including Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Lo Celso, 27, has received some quality playing time since James Maddison’s injury, thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s retention of him.

Barcelona is still keen to sign him in January despite this. According to reports, Xavi has asked his team’s transfer coordinators to sign the Tottenham midfield player for next month.

Journalist Jones, though, asserts that there is no possibility that Tottenham, led by Postecoglou, will let go of Lo Celso during the next January transfer window.

“As a squad player, you have to consider what success is,” he said to GiveMeSport. If you’re getting good game time, I think it’s enough to be a part of a team like Tottenham right now.

“You play as much of the game as the starter does, even if you enter it as a substitute. Games are getting longer—up to and including 100 minutes. You are therefore growing longer than the player who initiated the match if you enter the game at halftime. Being a squad player, as Lo Celso has been, includes doing this. There will be more opportunities for him.

He’s going to be a big player, in my opinion, and the most telling thing about this situation is that Tottenham will want to keep him around for the foreseeable future and won’t let him go.

Spurs’ Giovani Lo Celso

Lo Celso might be a vital member of Tottenham’s squad.

Giovani Lo Celso is not, and most likely never will be, Tottenham’s first pick.

Once he returns, James Maddison will almost certainly start every game, and after Dejan Kulusevski’s display in midfield against Newcastle, he may even be ranked higher than Lo Celso for the number 10 spot.

The Argentine might still be important off the bench, though. His goals against Manchester City and Aston Villa are proof that he can contribute to goals and that he fits into Postecoglou’s system.

We believe that holding onto Lo Celso in January is the best course of action, and that shouldn’t alter unless a significant offer is received the following month.
