Ange Postecoglou provided an update on Ashley Phillips, a young defender,’s level of fitness.

The potential 18-year-old center defender for Tottenham Hotspur has been sidelined since November due to an injury he received while playing for England Under-19.

Ange Postecoglou stated earlier in December that Phillips will probably not return until the New Year.

However, earlier this week, Spurs supporters received some good news when the team shared a video from the training facility featuring the former Blackburn star working out with the first team, indicating a successful stage in his recuperation.

Furthermore, Phillips’ full recovery from his injury and availability for selection against Everton have been confirmed by the manager.

Regarding the most recent team news, he stated the following (via Football London):

“Gio has returned. He’s alright. Except for the boys who are suspended, nobody from last week will be absent tomorrow. Gio has been trained for the past few days and is available; everyone else is well. Additionally available (for choosing) is Ashley Phillips.

Spurs, who only have Cristian Romero as a fit center-back, benefit from his return. Dier is not only injured but also not Postecoglou’s favorite; Micky van de Ven is still out and won’t be back for at least another two weeks.

After Romero’s suspension and van de Ven’s injury, Postecoglou had earlier made hints about giving Phillips a chance in the starting lineup.

Sadly, Phillips’s physical setback prevented him from participating right away and hampered his assimilation into the senior team.

Now that he’s healthy, Phillips has an opportunity to demonstrate his skills and gain a spot in Spurs’ starting lineup.
