Tottenham have a struggle on their hands to keep hold of right-back Pedro Porro with high-flying Girona targeting a deal for the Spaniard, Tottenham News has been told.
Since joining Spurs originally on loan from Sporting CP in January before a £39million permanent deal in the summer, Porro has swiftly become a fan favourite at the club.
The 24-year-old has made a wonderful start to his first full season in north London, locking himself down as one of the first names on Ange Postecoglou’s teamsheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, it seems the Lilywhites could have to ward off some interest for the right-back. A recruitment source with links to Spurs has told Tottenham News that he has been made aware that La Liga side Girona are interested in a surprise bid for Porro.
Girona have been the surprise package in Spain this season, now sitting second in La Liga alongside Real Madrid on 45 points, behind only on goal difference, and seven points clear of Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Tottenham News has been told that the Catalonian club are trying to construct a squad which can compete with the titans of Spanish football in the long term, and have selected Porro as the perfect player to fit into their strategy.
Porro previously played for Girona before joining Manchester City in August 2019, yet his career at the Etihad never quite took off, and he eventually sealed a permanent transfer to Sporting Lisbon after an initial loan spell in Portugal.
Tottenham News has also discovered that both Real Madrid and Barcelona could be poised to battle Girona for Porro’s signature, with the Spanish giants both keeping an eye on the defender’s progress in the Premier League.
Porro could be tempted by a move return to his home country, despite his recent rise to fame in the Premier League.
The defender has made 17 starts in the Premier League this season, aiding six goals so far.
