Giovani Lo Celso was excellent for Spurs against the in-form Cherries. The 27-year-old delivered the assists for both of the opening two goals.

But it was hardly a great afternoon for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Bournemouth probably had the chances to secure a far different result. And Tottenham suffered a pair of fresh injury blows, with both Pape Matar Sarr and Alejo Veliz limping off in either half.

But he was unable to make it to the full-time whistle against Andoni Iraola’s team — as much as he tried.

In fact, according to Football London, his attempts to keep on when plainly injured infuriated both Ange Postecoglou and Lo Celso. The couple were spotted going furious at Veliz, asking him to fall down so the game could be stopped.

Striker has significant role to play if he keeps fit Tottenham were eager to see out the contest. And Postecoglou probably thinks that Veliz could have a bigger part to play in the weeks to come given that Heung-min Son is due to be away on international duty.

Lo Celso meanwhile, appears to have a close bond with the striker. They both started their careers at Rosario Central. And Veliz apparently spoke to Lo Celso before signing for Tottenham in the summer. So the midfielder would have been looking out for the youngster, and is presumably attempting to help guide him at this juncture of his career.

Veliz certainly had the desire to carry on, maybe worrying that he would be letting the side down by coming off. But plainly, others believed that he did not need to try and be a hero, and it would be better for Spurs if the game was paused.
