Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo is allegedly a target for Aston Villa, as Unai Emery looks to improve his assault this month.

That’s according to Birmingham Live, which reports that Aston Villa is now monitoring a number of wide players.

Villa has had a fantastic start to the season under Unai Emery, and they could surprise everyone by winning the Premier League.

Whether Villa can maintain their early-season form throughout the campaign is still to be seen. They have, however, clearly been among the best in the division thus far.

The Villains seem to have the perfect chance to fill some holes in their roster and provide Emery with the men he needs to contend during the January transfer window.

Crysencio Summerville has already been linked to Villa; Fabrizio Romano recently stated that the Leeds United player is on Villa’s radar.

However, a new name has been added to the mix, according to Birmingham Live, who states that Geny Catamo is one of their targets.

Geny Catamo of Sporting CP is a target for Villa.

According to the publication, Villa is interested in both Summerville and Catamo. It should be mentioned that it’s not yet apparent which positions Villa will give priority to this month.

Catamo has made twenty appearances for Sporting so far this season, contributing four goals.

After spending the previous two seasons on loan, the Mozambican international is having a bit of a breakout season for the Portuguese powerhouse.

The manager of Mozambique has praised him much, saying he was dubbed as the very own Lionel Messi of his old club.

“He has always possessed exceptional technical skill, and because he is left-footed, his nickname from the beginning of his football career was Maxaquene’s Messi, which says something about the calibre of play he displayed. In July of last year, Chiquinho Conde told A Bola, “He is our favourite right now.”

According to reports, Catamo’s contract has a £52 million release clause. It seems unlikely that Villa would pay that kind of money for a player who is still relatively unknown.

However, Emery might find the 22-year-old to be a compelling alternative, and Villa could use more offensive options.
