Tottenham’s true motivation for wanting to buy Timo Werner has been revealed.

Unexpectedly, Timo Werner is likely to sign with Tottenham.

The former Chelsea player had been connected to Manchester United this month, but Spurs have taken the lead in this regard as a deal appears increasingly likely to be finalised in the next few hours.

Some find this manoeuvre to be a little puzzling. After all, throughout his previous stay in England, Werner was genuinely awful. There is a method, though, to the craziness.

Werner’s versatility is, in fact, one of the key reasons Spurs want to sign him, according to Ben Jacobs.

Spurs appear to have been drawn to the German’s versatility, as he can play as a left winger as well as seven.

Tottenham is drawn to Werner because of his adaptability, but we have no idea why.

Of course, having attackers who can cover wide positions is also a good idea, but Spurs don’t exactly lack players that fit that description?

Bryan Gil, Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, and Richarlison can all play down that left side, while Heung-Min Son and Richarlison can play both up front and on the left.

Werner doesn’t, in our opinion, improve on what Spurs currently have, nor does he provide depth at a position that sorely needs it.

Of course, Son will be playing in the Asian Cup for the next month, but as Jacobs points out, it doesn’t seem to be the main factor in this transaction.

One of the strangest transactions of the January transfer window is this one, but who are we to doubt Werner’s intentions for this Spurs team after such an incredible start to the year if Ange Postcoglou truly wants him?

Undoubtedly, it will be intriguing to see Werner’s playing location and his Tottenham performances.
