Town may still use the on-loan City defender despite the AFCON call-up, and Edwards provides an update on the pair’s chances of playing Bolton

Luton intends to have on-loan Despite being nominated in Burkina Faso’s team for the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins this month, Manchester City defender Issa Kabore is available for their FA Cup third round match against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Stallions lost their friendly match against Iran today, 2-1, and will play another warm-up match against the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Wednesday as part of their preparations for the Ivory Coast competition. Kabore did not play for his country in this afternoon’s encounter, though, since Luton asked him to be available for their cup match over the weekend against the League One promotion-chasers. Given that Burkina Faso’s CON group stage fixtures won’t begin until Tuesday, January 16, when they take on Mauritania, the 22-year-old has been allowed to stay in Bedfordshire and might now play in the FA Cup before departing.

When asked if Kabore could be included, Edwards responded, “He’s actually available.” He is available for the game because Burkina Faso has granted us the dispensation. He won’t be attending their training camp, but he will go after the cup tie.

Dan Potts’ season debut is anticipated to be premature given his string of injuries that have sidelined him since ligament damage sustained in the friendly against Vfl Bochum. However, Reece Burke, who hasn’t played since Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw in October, may see action during the match for the first time in more than two months.

“Probably too soon for Pottsy,” Edwards said. Since he’s working with us, it’s definitely too soon to throw him into a game. Although Burkey has been training for a little while longer than Pottsy, it’s definitely still too early to go right in. The fact that they are back training with us and receiving full instruction is fantastic.

Edwards promised to field a lineup that he feels will give Town every opportunity to advance to the fourth round draw, which is scheduled for Monday, January 8. Despite the likelihood that he will make numerous changes for the match, Edwards is still expected to make a number of changes.

“As of right now, we have Locks (Tom Lockyer) and Marv (Marvellous Nakamba) out longer term, but other than that, everyone is back and available,” he continued. We have as large a roster as we could hope for at this point in the season, at least now that everyone is back in the gym. This football game is the most crucial one for us right now, so I’ll choose the team I believe has the best chance of winning.

It’s difficult for anyone in the league to choose what I believe to be the best team since, as I’ve stated previously, I believe we have 16, 17, and 18 outfield guys who can start and are genuinely starters for us all. Every game offers individuals a variety of chances. We’ll consider that as the opponent has varying strengths and weaknesses, and I feel fairly secure in our current bunch.
