If the chance to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher arises this month, Tottenham Hotspur would do so “in a heartbeat.”

Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail, who has provided the most recent information on Tottenham’s interest in the Chelsea star, says as much.

Conor Gallagher is still a target for Spurs, who have a long history of admiring the midfield player.

This month, Ange Postecoglou has already added Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, strengthening two important positions in his team.

The Australian manager is reportedly eager to add a midfield player after bringing in a defender and a forward in January.

Only yesterday, Fabrizio Romano asserted that Postecoglou is very interested in acquiring Gallagher from Chelsea.

Sami Mokbel asserts that the transaction will be challenging to close this month, although Spurs have appeared to be “on the case” for a move since November.

Since November, Spurs have made attempts to sign Gallagher.

In an interview with The Last Word on Spurs, Mokbel revealed what a Premier League club’s recruitment director told him on Tottenham’s enduring interest in Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher at Chelsea is the first player who comes to mind and is someone they would do in a heartbeat, the journalist stated. It has long been believed—and it is true—that Ange is a huge fan of his.

“Galagher is a target for Tottenham. I mean, that’s my information. Speaking with someone who works in recruitment at a different Premier League team, I was informed in November that Tottenham was already investigating Gallagher and would take it further in January if successful.

“As long as Gallagher hasn’t agreed to a new contract with Chelsea, I can see Tottenham giving him top priority in the summer transfer window, but I think it would be a difficult deal to do right now ahead of the deadline.”

The question then arose as to whether Tottenham would actively pursue a player such as Gallagher in the absence of some assurance that he is amenable to the transfer.

“I believe you’re correct, Ricky,” Mokbel answered. Without encouragement, they wouldn’t go after the player or maintain a sustained interest in them.

Gallagher representatives would advise Tottenham to pursue their interest for a number of reasons.

“First and foremost, he would undoubtedly be open to go to Tottenham if the situation warranted it.

“On the cynical side, and I’ve seen this happen a lot in the past, Gallagher’s representatives might try to leverage Tottenham’s interest to pressure Chelsea into giving him a new contract.”

Considering the significance of Gallagher to the current Chelsea team, Tottenham may find it more and more difficult to get him this month.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 23-year-old has made 20 appearances in the Premier League and has even captained Tottenham’s London rivals.

However, there have been rumors that Chelsea, in an attempt to obtain money for a new forward signing, would entertain a deal of about £45 million.
