Tottenham News has been informed that Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres should be signed by Spurs before their London rivals Chelsea.

Gyokeres has had a strong season on his Sporting debut in Portugal.

In his first 25 games for the Lisbon club, the Sweden international has netted 22 goals and contributed 10 assists. He has also scored three goals in the UEFA Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur acquired the 25-year-old from Coventry Championship team last summer with a reported transfer fee of approximately £20 million, setting a record for both organizations (Coventry Telegraph, July 13, 2023).

In the midst of speculation that the forward will be moving to Stamford Bridge, Tottenham News has learned that Spurs have been counseled to challenge the Blues for Gyokeres’ services.

The striker’s worth has skyrocketed since he moved to Portugal, and Chelsea just had their offer of £73 million rejected for the player (Daily Mail, 16 January).

Tottenham News has learned from a reliable recruitment source connected to the club that Gyokeres would have preferred a move to Tottenham from Coventry. The source also revealed that the North London team believes the forward would fit in better at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Timo Werner, who recently signed a six-month loan from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Gyokeres led the Sky Blues to the Play-Off Final at Wembley, where they were defeated by Luton Town on penalties on May 27, 2023, after racking up 21 goals and ten assists in 46 Championship games.

Alongside Spurs star Dejan Kulusevski, he has made 19 appearances for the Swedish national team and scored five goals during that time.
