Amid leave rumors, Postecoglou has modified his opinion of the 25-year-old Spurs star.

Emerson Royal, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur, has been connected to a departure from the team in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old defender is no longer a consistent starter for the North London team as he has slid down the ladder. Naturally, he’s been connected to several teams lately.

But Ange Postecoglou, the manager, has made the decision to keep him around past the January transfer window. Any deal for Emerson Royal will need to wait until the summer transfer window as Tottenham is not interested in depleting their roster this month.

Spurs were willing to sell him, according to a Football Insider report, but the Australian boss has since changed his mind.

The Brazilian can play both central defense and full-back because of his versatility. He might end up being a helpful substitute for Tottenham in case of injury or rotation.

He isn’t expected to start for Tottenham in the upcoming weeks because he is now behind Pedro Porro in the hierarchy. Whether he is ready to put in a lot of effort in the gym and push his way into the manager’s first-team plans in the upcoming weeks is still to be seen.

Since joining Tottenham, Emerson’s tenure has been inconsistent; in order to play frequently at this level, he will need to improve his consistency.

Conversely, Porro has been playing brilliantly for the Londoners and has cemented his place among the nation’s top full-backs.
