Wenham calls Tottenham supporters “ridiculous” in light of Brennan Johnson’s situation.
John Wenham thinks it’s “ridiculous” that Spurs fans are criticizing Brennan Johnson after the forward struggled against Manchester City.
The FA Cup was eliminated from Ange Postecoglou’s team on Friday, January 26, after City defeated them 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
On their sixth visit to the new Spurs stadium, it was the first time Pep Guardiola’s team had scored there.
Johnson was one local player who had a particularly difficult time playing as Spurs managed to generate just one significant opportunity at goal during the entire game.
According to Sofascore, the 22-year-old only completed 50% of his passes, missed Tottenham’s one significant opportunity, and failed to deliver an accurate cross into the box on two occasions.
He lost all three of his sparring matches, gave up the ball thirteen times, and was dribbled past once.
Wenham feels that the winger shouldn’t have been criticized despite an unforgettable night.
Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, stated: “I’ve already seen some people criticizing Johnson. I find that to be absolutely absurd.
The young player in question has already demonstrated his ability to succeed in the Premier League by scoring ten goals for Nottingham Forest in the previous campaign.
“So far, he’s performed fine for Tottenham; he’s contributed a couple of assists but has also had some bad luck.
“He has at least twice struck the woodwork; if those opportunities had been taken, his stats would have improved and his detractors would have been quieter.
Tottenham
“I fully support Johnson and am confident he will succeed for Tottenham.”
