Daniel Levy will reportedly be forced to welcome Tottenham’s record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, back to north London this summer after an unsuccessful loan spell in Turkey. Galatasaray are expected to snub the midfielder’s permanent buy option, saddling Spurs with the task of trying to find a cash-rich buyer.

Interest to take Ndombele on a permanent deal has been minimal in recent years due to the mammoth wages he picks up at Tottenham. Reportedly on £200,000 a week, the 27-year-old has not played a senior game for Spurs in over two years.

Ndombele has spent that whole time out on loan; initially with Lyon, then at Napoli and now with Galatasaray, with each deal including a smaller and smaller permanent buy option.

Despite showing immense promise while rising through the ranks in Ligue 1, which convinced Spurs to splash out £63million and slap a lucrative contract on the table, Ndombele has failed to live up to his billing.

A permanent move to Galatasaray would have netted Tottenham just £13m. But with only six starts and one assist to his name, Ndombele looks certain to be placed back in the shop window after the Turkish outfit decided that the buy option was too expensive.

Levy and co will surely be desperate to find a new home for Ndombele this summer in an effort to trim down the wage bill. Sitting tight is not an option, as the player still has more than a year until his contract expires in June 2025.

Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg has also been linked with a move away from north London, and Ange Postecoglou’s side will likely have to sell players deemed surplus to requirements in order to finance moves for their more ambitious targets.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and Atalanta man Ederson are both believed to be under consideration at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where sporting director Johan Lange heads up the transfer department.

It remains to be seen whether Ndombele can change Galatasaray’s mind between now and the end of the season, with a tense title race and a Turkish Super Cup final still to unfold.
