Tottenham Hotspur appears to be intensifying their chase of Benfica defender Morato, as agent Kia Joorabchian strives to finalize the deal. The two teams have been linked for some time.

The need for Tottenham to get a new center back in the January transfer window is well known. Spurs’ squad depth has been clearly shown after Micky van de Ven’s injury last month, especially in the back.

Even Ange Postecoglou has expressed in public his intention to strengthen that region, saying he is “tenterhooks” in case another injury further thins his team.

Tottenham should even be well-aware of the price tag associated with acquiring the Brazilian, as A Bola (via Sport Witness) indicates that Spurs will need to surpass Fulham’s summer transfer fee of €25 million (£21.4 million) in order to acquire their target.

Agent trying to complete the Morato deal

Spurs are eager to recruit Morato, as a recent rumor from CalcioMercato can “confirm.” Super agent Kia Joorabchian is presently handling the case.

According to reports, Joorabchian is “personally taking care” of the talks to get Morato to the Premier League. Tottenham appears to be the most likely destination, since the Lilywhites have “multiple times” dispatched scouts to observe the defender.

The source also states that Benfica would be willing to let go of Morato for as cheap as €30 million (£25.9 million), despite the player’s €100 million (£86 million) release clause.

Although I think Morato is a good fit and his signing seems unlikely to be too expensive, I’m now fully committed to Jean-Clair Todibo. He is more of a proven skill and is reasonably priced.
