Long-time rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are vying for Jean-Clair Todibo’s signing in the January transfer window, therefore it may be in vain for United to try to get him.

Todibo will set any club back between £35 and £40 million if they choose to sign him, according to a TEAMtalk report. Todibo has made 14 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season, recording one assist in the process. But as of yet this season, he has not scored a goal.

At the moment, Todibo is a Ligue 1 player for OGC Nice. Although Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership of Nice could facilitate a transfer to United, Spurs now seem to be in the lead.

What are the advantages of Jean-Clair Todibo signing for Tottenham?

The quintessential modern center defender is Todibo. He is not only technically sound with a broad range of passing, but he can support this with powerful physical characteristics. He is incredibly well-rounded since he is swift and powerful in the air. With only nine goals allowed in 16 league games this season, Nice boasts the strongest defense in Ligue 1.

Spurs’ back-line choices right now are a bit of a headache. They have struggled without summer acquisition Micky Van de Ven, so adding a player similar to Tobido to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would be a terrific way to offer quality depth in his position.

Tottenham is also hoping to offload Eric Dier during the January transfer window. If he were to depart the team, their options at the back would be even more limited than they already have, which would emphasize the necessity to find a new center back.
