The players of Newcastle United had to endure a challenging routine at Kenilworth Road as they cheered on their supporters for a short while following their 1-0 loss to the newly promoted team.

At the end of a difficult day, the supporters who traveled south gave the Magpies a hearty ovation, notwithstanding how awful they had been against Luton. After leaving the field, the cartoon characters went through a tunnel that led to a place that appeared to be frozen in time.

But only after Luton supporters heckled Newcastle’s players after they had been humiliated in Bedfordshire, and after Luton manager Graeme Jones received a heated reception of his own, which he dismissed with a joke as he walked off the field. Inexplicably, United only managed two efforts on goal against a team of seasoned former top-flight stars and players who had led the Hatters up from the EFL, barely 80 days after they had thrashed Kylian Mbappe’s Paris St-Germain 4-1.

It seems sense that some Newcastle players could only observe in shock. As of right now, United has lost all seven of their away games across all competitions.

Eddie Howe’s efforts to treat travel sickness are unsuccessful.

Eddie Howe’s efforts to treat travel sickness are unsuccessful.

In an attempt to get Newcastle back on track this season, Howe has experimented with a few different strategies when playing away from home. With only the – opulent – 8-0 triumph over Sheff United to Newcastle’s credit, all of Howe’s previous and subsequent attempts have been unsuccessful.

The head coach said that training abroad was “over-rated” when Howe tried training at Benton prior to the players boarding their flight and going directly to their hotel in the early Champions League games in Milan and Dortmund. Newcastle trained with that torn up for the trip to PSG, but they ended up drawing 1-1.

Newcastle’s players traveled to the capital on Tuesday, returning the day of the match with a brief stopover at a hotel in London. However, the flight back culminated in another somber voyage as the Magpies were eliminated from the Carabao Cup. Newcastle chose to spend the night in a hotel on the eve of the match against Luton, but they ultimately lost the Premier League away from home for the sixth time this season.

Newcastle hasn’t triumphed at Liverpool in thirty years as a Premier League away team, but that will change for the first away game of 2024.

Dan Burn gives dressing room insight after Newcastle crash

Dan Burn was the only player to speak to the media after the game and admitted that Newcastle were “outworked” by the Hatters. The 6ft 7in defender also believed that United were not physical enough and that must be addressed in the next game against Nottingham Forest.

Burn made the following statement after the game: “You have to be a little more physical and outwork a team like Luton. You have to start there, and that’s not what we did. If we wish to qualify for the Champions League, we will need to address this.”
